Boychoir tours are always exciting events, but the Boychoir’s upcoming summer tour to New York City promises to be particularly special. On Sunday, June 9, the Cincinnati Boychoir Ambassadors will perform in Carnegie Hall as part of the Masterwork Festival Chorus. This marks the first time that the Cincinnati Boychoir has performed in Carnegie Hall.
The Cincinnati Boychoir will be part of the National Children’s Festival Chorus, along with the Campanella Children’s Choir from Northbrook, Illinois, the Concordia Youth Chorale from Belford, New Jersey, the Flint Hills Children’s Choir from Manhattan, Kansas, and the Sola Voce, New Jersey Youth Chorus from Chatham, New Jersey. Ensembles auditioning for the National Children’s Festival Chorus submit recordings to gain approval by the Manhattan Concert Productions (MCP) Committee. After this, selected ensembles work with the MCP staff to prepare for their concert.
At this particular event, the National Children’s Festival Chorus will be performing Purcell’s Alleluia, Stroope’s And Sure Stars Shining, and other pieces. The MCP is particularly excited about this performance, as it will be led by their own Conductor-in-Residence Brian Clissold.
“I have known the directors of the Cincinnati Boychoir for many years and am very happy to have this opportunity to collaborate. It is an honor to work with these young musicians, as I know what an asset they are to Cincinnati. I am aware that this is a time of transition for the organization as well, and am grateful for the chance to make music with them during this momentous performance tour!”
In addition to joining the Masterwork Festival Chorus at Carnegie Hall, the Cincinnati Boychoir Ambassadors will perform at:
- Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Bernard at 7 pm on Saturday, June 8 (free-will offering, no advance tickets required)
- The Church of the Transfiguration at 7 pm on Wednesday, June 12 (free-will offering, no advance tickets required)
They will spend an afternoon collaborating with the Highbridge Voices, a children’s choir based in New York City. When they’re not performing or practicing, the Boychoir will get a chance to visit Ellis Island, explore Times Square, try many different foods, and enjoy a performance of The Phantom of the Opera.
The Cincinnati Boychoir’s summer tour in New York City will run from June 6 to June 13. Tickets are still available for the Carnegie Hall concert here.
