On Monday night at the closing ceremonies of the Boychoir’s 2018-2019 season, the chair of the Cincinnati Boychoir’s Board of Trustees Tom Merrill announced the appointment of Jason Alexander Holmes to the position of Artistic Director effective this July. Mr. Holmes currently serves as director of educational programming at the Boston Children’s Chorus and has taught at the elementary, secondary, and college levels.

“We could not be more pleased with Jason’s appointment,” said Dr. Merrill. “Jason will not only continue the artistic and community impact work so important to the strategic vision of the Boychoir, but he will bring new ideas, new energy, and a deep understanding of the power of music education to the region. We couldn’t be more thrilled.”

“I am both humbled and honored to have the opportunity to jump on board with the Cincinnati Boychoir. Meeting the staff, parents, board, and, most importantly, the singers during the interview process made me so eager for the chance to join the thriving arts community in Cincinnati in this role. I’m ready to explore and celebrate the cultural fabric of this great city with the Boychoir!”

Mr. Holmes replaces outgoing directors Christopher Eanes and KellyAnn Nelson, who split the artistic duties of the Boychoir. He will be the sixth artistic director in the Boychoir’s 54-year history, joining an artistic and administrative staff of eight. The search for an executive director to lead the administrative staff of the Boychoir is currently underway.

Current artistic director and CEO Christopher Eanes says of Mr. Holmes’ appointment: “we are so very excited about the selection of Jason to lead the Boychoir into its next chapter. He has an amazing vision for the power of music education in the lives of young people as well as the community. And, he was selected by the boys as much as by the search committee: they have embraced him already, and we couldn’t possibly have chosen a better person to take the reins of this amazing organization.”

The search committee was led by board member Annette Hartley and included Boychoir parents, staff, and members, local musicians Kathy Wade and Dr. Brett Scott (CCM), Associate Professor of Music Education at CCM Dr. Eva Floyd, and members of the Cincinnati Boychoir Board of Trustees.

Mr. Holmes’ first season with the Boychoir will include a performance with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra of Mahler’s Third Symphony conducted by Maestro Louis Langrée, several performances at the Aronoff Center, and concert tours to Nashville and Southern California.
