Job Description:

The Cincinnati Boychoir has multiple ensembles within the organization.  This position is for an accompanist for the Level 4 ensemble, JourneyMen.  All boys in this ensemble have spent at least one year in the Cincinnati Boychoir and have started to develop strong sightreading and music theory skills.  The JourneyMen serves as the most advanced treble ensemble in the program.

Rehearsals: Mondays 7-8:30pm and Thursday 6:30 – 8:00pm September – April
Location: Aronoff Center for the Arts
Under the leadership of KellyAnn Nelson, Conductor (Managing Artistic Director)

JourneyMen impact their community through interpersonal connection.  These advanced treble singers bring their energy and interest in engaging others to the members of their choir community, concert audiences, and students in cities throughout our Country.  JourneyMen serve as the community engagement choir at festival-style events in Cincinnati like Saengerfest.  They will also learn skills, strategies and games as they take the lead on Community Building activities to engage and connect with other singers in an annual President’s Day weekend City Resident Tour along with DeltaChor.  This annual residency will feature a choir collaboration, community service project and public performance – with guided student input and leadership in the planning and implementation process.  All students participate in the music theory and sighsinging curriculum.

The accompanist will play for every rehearsal, as well as 3 annual showcase concerts (Nov, Dec, April), possible out-of-town concerts for the President’s Day weekend residency and several community performance opportunities.

Position Requirements

The ideal candidate(s) will have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in music education, collaborative piano, conducting or performance, or commensurate experience.  The candidate should have experience collaborating with a choral group and be able to play choral parts as well as accompaniments in a variety of musical styles.  The candidate should be comfortable around children and work to support their vocal development from the piano.

Timeframe & Hours

This is a part-time, contracted position(s) starting July 1, 2017.  Rehearsals and performances will take place from September through April on Monday and Thursday nights, with additional retreats and concerts as per the Cincinnati Boychoir’s schedule.


The successful candidate(s) will be paid monthly as a contractor.  Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with skills and experience. No benefits are offered for this position, other than the joy of working with a successful arts organization and motivated boys who love to sing and learn.
