The 2009-2010 season is going to be an exciting one, and the first thing you will see is some changes in our programming. The six-concert subscription series (3 sets of 2 concerts each) will begin with Christmas with the Cincinnati Boychoir. This traditional lessons and carols service will feature readings from the nativity (and related poetry), and all four choirs will join in presenting your favorite Christmastide melodies. There will be congregational singing as well!
Mystics and Madmen is our mid-winter presentation, and highlights the ethereal nature of boys’ voices through repertoire from the sublime to the insane. Dark and light, sacred and profane, mystical and hysterical: a mass by Lotti, a set entitled “Darkness into light” featuring works of Casals, Handel, and Fauré. Bring Your Own Incense.
Our spring program, inspired by our April 2010 tour to the northeast, is One if by Land, Two if by Sea. Though the inspiration is the American colonial period, our selections will span 200 years of American history, all the way up to Louis Armstrong.
We will also be presenting a special concert at the Taft Museum in downtown Cincinnati. The program, entitled Art | Song is inspired by the masterworks by Dickenson and Rembrandt (among others) hanging in and around the museum’s Music Room.
