First Steps: Joining the Cincinnati Boychoir
Every great experience begins with one courageous step. To sing in a choir, that step is the audition. At the Boychoir, this is a friendly, informative, and educational encounter for boys and their parents, and we hope that if you know a boy who loves music, you will help him take this life-changing step.
Boys try out at one of our open auditions in September, January, or April. (Register for an audition here.) Auditions are open to any boy entering the second through twelfth grade.
During the audition, new boys will sing with one of our current choirs so they can experience what our rehearsals are like. We will also hear each boy sing separately in small groups. The audition is short, usually about five minutes, and in it, we ask each boy to listen to a few notes and sing them and then to sing a familiar song such as Happy Birthday.
If you are interested in scheduling an audition time, please see one of the directors after a concert or call our office. We always appreciate recommendations from the boy’s school music teacher. (Sample teacher recommendation letter) Or, register your boy for one of our open auditions.

We will notify you of your boy’s acceptance and placement via email within one week of the audition. We will place auditionees in one of four ensembles to start their Cincinnati Boychoir journey. The Boychoir program currently encompasses seven different choral ensembles through which boys can progress as they grow and develop their skill. We will place your boy into one of these four ensembles (the remaining three ensembles promote boys from within the program only):

- Training Choir (Level 2 – unchanged voices) – Grades 2-5, Monday nights 6-7pm
